Salsa Joe’s Tex-Mex Smokehouse Opens Tuesday in Wheeling | News, Sports, Jobs
WHEELING – Excitement has been building for weeks, but the wait will finally be over Tuesday when Salsa Joe’s Tex-Mex Smokehouse officially opens its new Wheeling location in Elm Grove.
The soft opening on Tuesday at Undo’s Elm Grove former site will offer a temporary menu during the first week of operation, with Cantina 14 Tequila Bar in full operation. The full Salsa Joe menu will be available at the new location the following week with the arrival of June.
“Around the second week of June, we will introduce a Sunday brunch from 11 am”, Tom Strussion, owner of Salsa Joe’s, said. “We are already taking reservations for Father’s Day.”
Strussion, a native of Bellaire, opened Salsa Joe’s first Tex-Mex smokehouse in Arlington, Texas, before returning to his roots in the Ohio Valley and opening a new location on National Road in Belmont near the former site of Jamboree In The Hills last summer. Salsa Joe’s “740” The area code location became an instant hit with its smoked meat Tex-Mex menu dishes – from smoked brisket to chicken and pork tacos, the famous Big Ol ‘Burrito, Smokehouse Wings and Smokehouse Burger, Cowboy Beans slowly baked in the brisket, and a mouthwatering menu brimming with more.
Cantina 14 Tequila Bar offers (at least) 14 exclusive drinks, and the atmosphere of the Red Country and Southwest sets the stage for a fun formula for all.
“Our foundation is family, food and fun” Strussion said, hinting that Salsa Joe’s will continue to grow as long as customers continue to show their enthusiastic support.
Salsa Joe’s Tex-Mex Smoker “304” The location has found a perfect home in the old Undo’s Elm Grove facility, according to Strussion, who is opening the new location with his partner Andrew Griffin.
“The building has such a great history, there is easy access to the national road and the motorway – once all the bridges have been repaired – and it sits right between the Highlands and Wheeling town center,” Said Strussion. “We’re also going to bring different things to Elm Grove.”
Some unique “secondary” menu items will be presented to the new “304” location in the near future, including steaks, quesadillas, a basket of shrimp, Italian ice cream and more than some new customers might expect, as Salsa Joe’s was born from Texas barbecue roots with a touches of the Southwest, Tex-Mex and even Italian flavors in its signature dishes.
The Elm Grove location will host live music by major local bands throughout the extended region all the way to Pittsburgh, playing everything from jazz to country. Comedy shows are planned for the second floor section of the property, and special plans are being made for the walled patio.
A staff of around 35 employees will work at the new Elm Grove site, with a mix of familiar faces from the “740” Onsite team working with new Salsa Joe staff at both locations while things fall into place and work.
Always looking to the future, Strussion said that another new location for Salsa Joe’s is currently being targeted in Canonsburg, PA. For more information, visit www.salsajoes.net or visit the official Facebook pages.
