Ram Country Updates: May 2022

Welcome back to “Ram Country Updates,“Aries fans!

We’re almost at the end of another competition schedule, and it’s been a great year in many ways to be a Colorado State Ram! As I reflect on the successes and challenges of 2021-22, I am more excited than ever about our future and what lies ahead in 2022-23.

We will be heading into June with several individual track and field athletes competing in NCAA events. After that, we will officially conclude the year 2021-22!

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES!

December and May are two of our most special months in college athletics as we celebrate our student-athlete launch ceremonies. At the end of each semester, we are proud to celebrate the fulfillment of a promise made to our student-athletes that when they come to the State of Colorado, they will have the opportunity to earn a meaningful degree from an institution world class.

The beginning is the culmination of a lot of hard work, determination and perseverance. Balancing your academic and athletic schedule is one of the toughest tasks anyone can handle, and we’re so proud of our student-athletes who do it at an exceptional level here at Colorado State!

This spring we celebrated 52 graduates and expect to see a few more as they complete their courses over the summer to complete their studies. If you haven’t already, head over to Graduation Central to see the list of graduates this semester!

ATHLETICS CONTINUE HISTORIC RACE
This past weekend, our men’s and women’s track and field programs both finished second at the Mountain West Championships in Fresno. I know about Coach Brian Bedard and his second-place program is a bitter pill to swallow because of the championship standard within that program. However, as Ram fans, we should all pause and celebrate another top 3 of these programs! It’s a remarkable achievement and a sign that Coach Bedard hasn’t just built a team, he’s built a culture.

This marks nine consecutive top-3 finishes for the men’s program and 10 consecutive top-3 finishes for the women!

We had record performances as well as 12 individual event champions!

Congratulations to Lexie Keller (Heptathlon), Gabi McDonald (PutPut), Michaela Hawkins (Discus), Lauren Gale (400m) and Yolanda Johnson (400m Hurdles) on the women’s side and Mariano Kis (PutPut), Jackson Morris ( Javelin and Discus), Eldridge Harris (Perch), Jacob Breuckman (1500m), Kelley Stephens (100m) and Ryan Birkmeier (800m) for men for their performances in the championship! Lexie, Lauren, Jackson and Eldridge also set school records in the process!

A number of those Rams will now move into the NCAA Preliminaries and the NCAA Championship event over the next few weeks, and we’ll be cheering them on as they go.

JONES WIN TITLE AND MEN’S GOLF CONCLUDES SEASON IN NCAA REGIONALS
Congratulations to Connor Jones on his individual championship at the 2022 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship! He is only the third Ram to win the event and helped our team finish second overall.

Following this performance, the head coach Christian NewtonThe team was selected to compete in the NCAA regional event in Bryan, Texas, which wrapped up last week. It was the 20and NCAA appearance for the program and third under Coach Newton.

NAME, IMAGE AND LIKENESS UPDATES
The name, image, and likeness (NIL) conversation continues every day throughout college athletics. We are fully committed to the space, and it’s great to see a number of our student-athletes capitalizing on their profile during their time here at Colorado State.

We recently partnered with The Brandr Group to allow our student-athletes to participate in group licensing agreements which will soon begin to take shape.

If you are a business or individual interested in connecting with a State of Colorado student-athlete and not sure where to start, please complete our NIL Connection Form, and we will send your student information to you – athletes you listed.

PLEASE JOIN US ON THE RAMS ROADSHOW
Thank you to all the Ram fans who came out to see our trainers at our three Rams Roadshow events in Denver, Sterling and Greeley! It’s always fun to get out into the community, and having the Rams Roadshow return for the first time since spring 2019 has been great fun for our coaches and staff. Thanks also to the CSU Alumni Association for their outstanding partnership in organizing the Rams Roadshow!

FACILITY UPDATES IN MOBY ARENA AND SOCCER-SOFTBALL
Work continues on improvements to the Moby Arena dressing rooms. We are getting closer and closer to being able to show what these improvements will look like for our men’s and women’s basketball programs!

On April 28, we held a groundbreaking ceremony with our soccer and softball programs to celebrate the creation of new facility improvements for each program. We are still in the final design stages for each upgrade and will prioritize student-athlete wellness upgrades first. We hope to be able to share more about this very soon too!
