Merseyside town rated ‘fittest’ in country

A Merseyside town has been rated the ‘fittest’ in the UK.

Southport has been called a town full of fitness fanatics when looking at the facilities available to locals. Forbes Advisor, an advisory and information arm of Forbes, has created a list of the top ten places in the country that are deemed the most apt.

The chart was compiled by analyzing green space data from the Ordnance Survey, fitness facility counts from Companies House and cycle path data from Sustrans to create an index. The study found that the seaside town of Southport ranked top, and nowhere else on Merseyside was in the top ten.

The study also revealed that more than a quarter of the city is covered in green space. The analysis came as the company sought to find the most suitable areas by comparing life insurance for those across the country.

Kevin Pratt of Forbes Advisor commented on the research: “Exercise, for many of us, is its own reward. It helps us feel better and gives us the energy and sense of well-being we need to approach our daily lives with a positive attitude. And when it comes to an important product like life insurance, it can even save us money.

“When you apply for life insurance, you will be asked to provide detailed information about your health and medical history, including your height and weight, the amount of alcohol you drink and whether you are a smoker. If the insurance company judges that you are in good shape for your age and have a healthy lifestyle, then you will generally get a lower premium than someone who looks like you overall, but is considered severely overweight or who drinks too much alcohol or uses tobacco.
