Blake Shelton Rocks ‘The Voice’ Finale with ‘Minimum Wage’
Night one of The voiceThe season finale aired on Monday, May 24, and this year’s top 5 contenders performed a dazzling series of songs as fans watched and voted live. In between these performances, however, Blake Shelton briefly left his trainer’s chair and took the stage for a performance of his current single, “Minimum Wage.”
Standing on the Voice stage with an acoustic guitar in hand, Shelton was supported by a full band and stage set designed to resemble an old-fashioned car wash and gas station. The aesthetic gives a visual twist to Shelton’s country hit, which celebrates the kind of love that makes a person feel like a million bucks – even if they work for a low salary.
“Minimum Wage” is removed from the list of Body language, Shelton’s 12th album to date, released on May 21 – less than a week before The voice stage to perform the single. The project also includes “Happy Anywhere”, the singer’s successful duet with his superstar fiancee Gwen Stefani, whom he met on the set of The voice.
After performing, Shelton was taken aback by a compilation video featuring many artists he has mentored over the years, congratulating him on the tenth anniversary of his time on The voice. Shelton is the longest-serving coach on the show and has been one of four coaches since the show’s inception.
Monday’s episode was a busy night for Shelton, whose performance came in addition to training not one but of them competitors in the final. Team Blake’s Jordan Matthew Young joined the Top 5 at the end of last week’s semifinals episode following the live instant save. This means Shelton has two chances of having the winning nominee on his team, while the other three judges each have an artist running.
The voices the next champion will be announced at the end of the second part of the final on Tuesday evening (25 May). The episode airs at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
